Breaking Down the October Coding Updates

Description
During this webinar, we will look at the upcoming coding changes that go into effect on Oct. 1, 2024. These changes will include deleted, added, and revised codes as well as changes to both the Alpha and Tabular indexes. We will also discuss any potential problematic documentation issues that could arise with some of these codes.
Objectives
1. Identify 2 coding categories that will be most impacted in their agency.
2. Recall 2 new codes to the official ICD-10 list.
3. Formulate a plan to address any potential problematic documentation issues with providers.
Meet the Speaker
Apryl Swafford, RN, BSN, COS-C, HCS-D, HCS-H, HCS-O, QA Manager, SimiTree
Apryl Swafford, who currently serves as QA manager for SimiTree, has more than 25+ years of experience in home health. She began her nursing career in 1994 with a BSN from Jacksonville State University in Alabama and has worked in roles as a case manager, clinical manager, and leader of a cardiopulmonary specialty program. Apryl is a certified OASIS specialist (COS-C & HCS-O) as well as having coding certifications in both home health and hospice (HCS-D, HCS-H). She has led multiple coding and OASIS classes for agencies, as well as speaking on topics of interest to home care and hospices agencies, such as OASIS E, home health regulations, PDGM, HH VBP, outcomes management and others, at many state associations.
Apryl has provided multiple articles for home care publications, written scenarios for auditor training as well as OASIS classes, serves on several AHCC/BMSC committees, and been a subject matter expert for numerous home care articles.
As QA manager for SimiTree, Apryl monitors the overall quality of coding, OASIS, and plan of care reviews completed by both full-time and contract auditors. Apryl works in conjunction with the QA specialists and education department to identify topics of education to address any trending issues noted in QA reviews. Apryl also assists with onboarding new auditors as needed and assists team managers with completing coding and OASIS reviews when volumes increase.

Prior to the webinar, a Zoom link will be e-mailed to you. You will need to click on this link to access the webinar; a dial-in number and an access code to listen in via telephone will also be provided. You will also be sent any pertinent handouts if available to the email address you provide.
This webinar will be recorded and made available to registrants. An email with the recording link will be sent following the webinar. Those viewing the recording will not be eligible for CEU.
Continuing Education
This program has been designed to meet the continuing education requirements for the Minnesota Board of Nursing, Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist Licensing and the Minnesota Board of Occupational Therapy for 2.0 contact hours.
A certificate of attendance will also be offered. We will be tracking attendance via Zoom and will be auditing the total time spent watching the webinar(s). The webinar(s) must be watched in their entirety for CEUs; partial credit will not be awarded. CEUs will not be available with the recording link.

Cancellations
Fees will be refunded only if written cancellation is received prior to the workshop webinar link being sent to your agency. In the event of a written cancellation, KHCHA will retain or charge $25 of the initial registration fee to cover administrative overhead.
