Unpacking the Long Term Care Mega Rule -

Encouraging Collaboration and Patient-Centered Pharmaceutical Care in Nursing Facilities

Webinar

Tuesday, January 9, 2018

10:30 am –  Noon CST **

** a recording will be available for those unable to participate live

On October 4, 2016, CMS released the Final Rule of the Reform of Requirements for Long-Term Care (LTC) Facilities. This is the first major update to the Conditions of Participation (CoP) for LTC since 1991.  Because of the size and scope of the comprehensive update; it’s also been dubbed the LTC “Mega Rule”.  This session will review pharmacy services information provided in Appendix PP of the State Operations Manual (SOM) Interpretive Guidelines (IG) to the Mega Rule.  Providing hospice organizations a basic understanding of LTC facility regulations will allow for stronger collaboration between these two centers of patient care.

The Presenter will:

  • Describe aspects of the LTC Requirements of Participation (RoP) related to caring for hospice patients who reside in LTC facilities
  • Identify key pharmacy services components of the LTC RoP
  • Review effects of LTC RoP on person-centered care

PresenterBridget McCrate Protus, PharmD, MLIS, BCGP, CDP, is the Director of Drug Information for Optum Hospice Pharmacy Services. She graduated with her PharmD from The Ohio State University where she also completed a pharmacy practice residency specializing in hospice and palliative care. She received her Master of Library & Information Science from Kent State University. She is a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist and a Certified Dementia Practitioner. Bridget serves on the Professional Development Committee of LeadingAge Ohio and is the Research Committee Chair for the Society of Palliative Care Pharmacists.
