Description: The CDC estimates that one in ten adults in the United States reports depression. About 25 million Americans will have an episode of major depression this year alone but only half of them receive treatment. Depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide and represents a public health challenge. This disease may be experienced by people of any age group, any nationality or any socioeconomic level. Many times depression is not detected and therefore goes unmanaged. This presentation will focus on the manifestations of depression that patients may exhibit and the aide’s role in caring for the depressed patient.

Presenter: The presenter for this activity is Cindy R. Morgan, RN, MSN, CHC, CHPN, Associate Vice President of Hospice, Palliative Care and Clinical Innovations, AHHC of North Carolina. Cindy is a certified trainer in coaching supervision and also a certified Health Coach. She has worked in various director level positions in Home Care and Hospice throughout the years. Her work in Hospice began as a volunteer nurse in the 1980’s. Later in her career, she was the Assistant Vice President of a large Home Care and Hospice organization in Central North Carolina where she was responsible for overseeing both home health and hospice operations. Cindy has served as a Board member for the NC Center for Nursing and is a past member of the NC Board of Nursing.
