Description: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a type of dementia that affects thought, memory and language. Scientists think that as many as 4.5 million Americans suffer from AD. As the disease gets worse, people often need more and more care. This can be hard for caregivers and can affect their physical and mental health, family life, job and finances. In home aides play a vital role in helping to care for these patients and provide important respite to family caregivers. This teleconference will assist the in-home aide in being able to describe the role they play in helping to manage patients with AD.

Presenter: Michelle Davis White, MSN, RN has worked in home care for many years during which time she has implemented various In-Home Aide programs and offered direct aide supervision. She is currently the Director for HomeCare Providers, a division of Alamance Regional Medical Center. She is a Nurse Aide instructor for Alamance Community College and serves on the Alamance Community College Nursing Assistant Advisory Committee. Michelle is also part-time faculty at UNC-CH School of Nursing in the Public Health Division.
